I suspect AI programming's ultimate trajectory won't differ significantly from The Last One's. When programming tools demonstrate unreliability, resist mental modeling, and cannot consistently reject invalid inputs, they appear unfit for purpose and unlikely to represent programming's future. We cannot develop AI mental models through conventional methods. But we must remember that incomprehensibility doesn't indicate hidden wisdom or capability.
